Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry

Head of the Department:
Department Overview:

The Department of pharmaceutical chemistry consists of 06 faculty members, PhD research scholars and PG students working at the interface of drug chemistry and target biology. The faculty members are actively involved in search of novel inhibitors in the area of inflammation, cancer, tuberculosis as well as isolation and characterization of natural products. The undergraduate and postgraduate programs for the students are designed in such a way to develop better understanding of the subject throughout the curriculum and enhance student’s training to meet industrial need. Students learn organic synthesis, analytical instrument handling, natural product isolation and characterization, medicinal chemistry, lead identification and optimization with modern equipment for research work. The pharmaceutical chemistry graduates, postgraduates and doctorates are widely employed on both national and international levels.

Department Mission:

The mission of the Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry is to advance the science and application of chemistry in the design, development, and evaluation of pharmaceutical compounds. By integrating principles of organic chemistry, biochemistry, and molecular pharmacology, the department aims to foster innovation in drug discovery and development, ensuring safe, effective, and targeted therapies. Through excellence in teaching, research, and community engagement, the department prepares students to be leaders in pharmaceutical sciences and contributes to improving global health outcomes by addressing contemporary challenges in medicine.

Department Vision:

To be a global leader in pharmaceutical chemistry research and education, advancing the discovery, development, and understanding of innovative drug therapies through cutting-edge science, interdisciplinary collaboration, and a commitment to improving health and well-being for society
